A science teacher at an IN middle school saved lives when he threw a basketball at a student who opened fire IN his classroom, a witness said.

Seventh-grade science teacher Jason Seaman is being praised for what many are calling selfless actions and quick thinking.

On Saturday morning, President Donald Trump took notice, too.

Seaman released a statement Friday evening confirming he was injured and thanking first responders.

Jowitt said that the school employs a full-time school resource officer, but does not know if he was involved in the shooting. Students were transported to the high school to be picked up by parents.

Jeremy Seaman told the Indianapolis Star that his brother's actions did not surprise him.

Seaman's mother said in a public Facebook post that Seaman was shot in his abdomen, hip and forearm.

"As we move forward & embark upon a healing process, it's important to continue prayers & efforts to support our community". Brooks said she had "just met" Seaman.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected by this awful situation", Holcomb said.

This is third time in recent months a civilian has taken down a shooter.
