Bundesliga club Mainz have released a statement announcing that a deal has been agreed "in principle" with Newcastle United for Japanese worldwide Yoshinori Muto, for a fee reportedly around £9.5m.

The 23-year-old, who represented his nation in the World Cup in Russian Federation this summer, spent a fruitful loan spell there at the tailend of last season, scoring 12 goals in just 17 games as they earned promotion via the playoffs.

"Mitro's back - and he's here to stay", the club stated on Twitter.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has finalised his permanent switch from Newcastle to Fulham in a deal worth £20million.

"I'm happy to the moon and back", he said.

"Such was his popularity, he came fifth in the voting for Fulham's Player of the Season award, despite spending less than half the campaign in SW6".

"I have love for the fans".

Sky sourcesunderstand the newly-promoted Premier League side have paid an initial £22m to sign Mitrovic, with the fee potentially rising to £27m when performance-related add-ons are taken into account. They're fantastic fans and I have a really good connection with them.

The 26-year-old Muto, who played for Japan at this summer's World Cup, scored a personal-high eight goals in 27 matches in his third season with the German club.
