Iranian forces have withdrawn their heavy weapons in Syria to a distance of 85 km from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, TASS quoted a Russian envoy as saying on Wednesday, but Israel deemed the pullback inadequate.

Russian Federation will deploy its military police on the Golan Heights frontier between Syria and Israel, its defense ministry said on Thursday, after weeks of mounting volatility in the area.

But Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman sounded more upbeat on Thursday as he described an Assad win as a given.

"When the Syrian forces with all their supporters are trying to capture the areas close to the borders we can expect more mistakes and more friction with us".

The UN peacekeeping forces first deployed along the frontier in 1974 to separate Syrian and Israeli forces after Israel occupied the Golan Heights in the 1967 war.

Rudskoy said Russian military police have accompanied the peacekeepers on patrols, adding that eight Russian-manned observation points opposite the United Nations points will be set up "to rule out possible provocations".

But they entered a downward spiral in recent times when Israel intensified its bombing of military infrastructure in Syria.

The peacekeeping mission was halted in 2014, over security concerns, amid the violence in Syria's civil war.

Iran Rejects Trump’s Offer of Talks as ‘Humiliation’
Mr Trump said he had "no preconditions" for a meeting with the Iranians, adding: "If they want to meet, I'll meet". Blanc said he views Trump's offer as very much in line with Trump's desired approach to solving global issues.

Israel has been lobbying the Kremlin to use its influence with Assad, and with Tehran, to try to get the Iranian military presence in Syria scaled back.

He declined to say specifically where they were located, but said it was in the southern Golan, near the Jordanian border.

An Israeli military spokesperson declined to comment on the SANA report.

When asked whether Israeli forces should be less wary about possible tension in the Golan Heights, the top official answered: "I believe so".

"From our perspective, the situation is returning to how it was before the civil war, meaning there is a real address, someone responsible and central rule", Lieberman told reporters during a tour of air defence units in northern Israel.

ISIL fighters have been staging attacks in southwestern Syria, as they face an offensive by troops loyal to Syria's President Bashar al-Assad.

In Amman, Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said the Syrian government has not officially requested the opening of the Syria-Jordan border after government forces recaptured its side of a crossing from rebels last month.
