MeToo activist Argento settled sex assault complaint

Actor-director Asia Argento, one of the vocal advocates of the #MeToo movement, settled a claim past year from a former child actor that she assaulted him when he was 17.

Italian actrses Asia Argento poses as she arrives on May 19, 2018 for the closing ceremony and the screening of the film "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" at the 71st edition of the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, southern France. The age of consent in California is 18.

In response, Argento reportedly agreed to pay Bennett a total of $380,000, beginning with a lump sum payment of $200,000.

Shortly after those revelations broke in October a year ago, in November, Bennett's lawyers sent a notice of intent to sue to Richard Hofstetter, lawyer for the late Anthony Bourdain, who was also representing Argento at the time.

The papers sent to The New York Times through encrypted email by an unidentified party include a selfie dated 9 May, 2013, of the duo lying in bed.

Argento, 42, was one of the first women to publicly accuse Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault and rape a year ago.

Cases can be contagious a few days before the rash appears, which increases the possibility of unknowingly exposing others. Health officials warn we are on track for a more infectious year than usual, with cases cropping up from coast to coast.

The events took place in 2013, but the pay-off was only demanded by Bennett and paid by Argento in recent months, as the scandal around Harvey Weinstein and the #MeToo movement gained momentum.

The pair met in 2004 when Argento cast Bennett, then just 7, to play her son in "The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things". But it seems that she's also being accused of sexual assault by 22-year-old actor and musician Jimmy Bennett.

Representatives for Argento could not be immediately reached for comment. "You are a powerful and inspiring creator and it is a miserable condition of life that you live among shitty individuals who've preyed on both your strengths and your weaknesses".

The notice says the encounter traumatised Bennett and hurt his career, the Times reported.

The actor made his allegations in legal documents in November 2017, a month after Argento's allegations against Harvey Weinstein were revealed in a New Yorker report by Ronan Farrow.
