At the end of Huawei's IFA event overnight, Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu also confirmed the Mate 20 will be unveiled in London on October 16th.

But a bit about the Kirin 980 first.

The Kirin 980 is the world's first 7nm processor.

The Kirin 980 will be seen shortly on the upcoming Huawei flagships later this year.

"We look forward to seeing it in our future products to elevate our customers' experiences such as in the camera, gaming and entertainment". The phone's got an extra-tall 6.3-inch 1080p screen, and dual cameras on both the front and the back.

The Kirin 980 also has a new ISP with a 46% increase in performance over last year's model. This allows the camera to manipulate the picture contrast to highlight objects in various parts of the photo. The changes improve support for multi-camera setups while adding new HDR color reproduction technology and better noise reduction, particularly on images shot in low light. Another new feature of the ISP is improved motion tracking. However, the Kirin 980's actual worth may be defined when it comes up against a Snapdragon counterpart in real-world tests.

Huawei says the 7-nanometer process delivers a 20 percent improvement in performance and 40 percent better power efficiency over 10-nanometer chips.

The Kirin 980 is also notably the world's first processor built around ARM's Cortex-A76 CPU and Mali-G76 GPU.

Trump administration cuts US$300-million from funding to Palestinian refugees
The US will now work together with other global groups to find a better model to assist the Palestinians, the statement said. The total number of registered Palestinian refugees qualifying for the United Nations assistance is over five million.

In layman's terms - the technology used in the Kirin 980 SoC makes everything more efficient and faster.

Mali-G76 utilises AI to intelligently identify gaming workloads and adjust resource allocation for optimal gaming performance.

The Dual NPU Kirin 980 elevates the On-Device AI experience with greater processing power and intelligence.

Together they can recognise up to 4,600 images per minute, which is 120 per cent more compared to the previous generation.

While it isn't very surprising to hear that Huawei's phones have been doing well in China, the P20 Pro and the P20 have been outselling their predecessors in Western Europe, and that's something for the company to be excited about. It wouldn't be announcing a new SoC this powerful for nothing. Today Huawei has announced a brand new phone for people to buy.

Perhaps we are seeing the first indicator of that with this announcement.

October can't come fast enough.

It's been a pretty big day for Huawei.
