Suge Knight to be sentenced to 28 years in prison

Knight was initially charged with murder and faced life in prison without parole - his sentence of 28 years stems from a plea deal struck with the District Attorney's office on Wednesday.

He is alleged to have mowed down two men with his Ford F-150 pickup truck outside a burger stand in the Los Angeles suburb of Compton on January 29, 2015.

The confrontation was captured on surveillance video near the set of the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton.

As part of the agreement the murder charges against Knight will be dismissed by prosecutors, along with separate criminal cases charging him with robbery and making criminal threats.

However, since the practice was still prevalent, the court had asked the government to bring a law against the practice. The Bill is yet to be introduced in the upper House of the Parliament. "Our issue is with the criminalisation aspect".

However, Knight will get credit for time served, knocking down his sentence to about 25 years.

Delays, detours and drama marked the run-up to Knight's trial, which was expected to begin October 1 under tight security and secrecy. With this plea, Knight will not be eligible for release until he is 81 years old.

She said it was a relief to see the court proceedings, which had become "a complete circus", wind to a close after three and a half years.

Knight would frequently, against the advice of Coen and his attorneys, speak extensively during hearings, complaining about jail conditions, his attorneys and his health issues. Knight lost control of the company after it was forced into bankruptcy. In 1997, he was sentenced to jail for violating that probation after participating in an altercation in Las Vegas that culminated hours later in the fatal shooting of Tupac Shakur while he rode in Knight's vehicle. Shakur's slaying remains unsolved.
