SpaceX to announce private moon flight passenger

SpaceX's other major venture thus far, the Falcon Heavy, which is a reusable heavy lift launch vehicle, took almost twice as long to complete than expected.

Musk, 47, made it clear before the private passenger event that crewed spaceflight for NASA remains SpaceX's top priority.

The BFR is a long way from reality and Musk himself says he's "not 100 percent certain we can bring this to flight".

"If you hear from me, please say yes", the Japanese tycoon pleaded.

"Ever since I was a kid, I have loved the moon", Maezawa said.

On plans to send "space tourists" to the moon SpaceX said in early 2017.

As part of its preparations to create a spacecraft that can fly people to Mars, SpaceX is building what it's named a BFR-which stands for the Big Falcon Rocket-that will approach the Moon without landing, via a path similar to the one that Apollo 8's astronauts took on a December 1968 mission.

"Future announcements about the project, which Maezawa is calling "#dearMoon", will be posted on a website and social media accounts under the same name. But both said that Maezawa has already made a substantial down payment, and that he's buying the entire flight (meaning the artists will fly for free).

He intends to take six to eight people with him on his lunar trip, including a combination of painters, musicians, dancers, photographers, film directors, fashion designers, and architects, reports Bloomberg.

Timberwolves star Butler reportedly requests trade
He reportedly provided a list of one to three teams with which he would be open to signing a long-term deal, sources said. Minnesota Timberwolves guard Jimmy Butler has requested a trade after recently meeting with head coach Tom Thibodeau .

Still, when asked by reporters if Musk would be a passenger, he left the door open to the possibility. "This will look really epic in person", Musk said.

A year later, he paid more than $110 million auction for another piece by the same artist.

Musk said, "It makes a difference".

Once again, Musk's big news came in the face of nagging questions and tumult - this time generated largely by his own behavior.

But so far this year, his space firm has also kept up a schedule outpaced only by the Chinese government, making 15 launches with its Falcon 9 rocket. The BFR, as it is known, is in development, possibly years from flying. With enough thrust to carry almost a hundred people all the way to Mars, it's safe to say it won't be much of a problem to carry six-eight artists including crew to the moon and back. The test flight will be conducted a month after the most recent dates announced by NASA. It aims to launch its first crewed mission to the space station in the second quarter of 2019.

Short sightseeing trips to space aboard Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket are likely to cost around $200,000 to $300,000, at least to start, Reuters reported in July.

The 42-year-old online retailer said it has been his lifelong dream to go to space.

Two of Musk's fellow billionaires - Amazon's Jeff Bezos and Virgin Group's Richard Branson - also want to make a business out of space tourism. However, he did not reveal the total price of the tickets.
