The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and his newly expecting wife Meghan met koalas and participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony at Sydney's Taronga Zoo on October 16.

Several of them congratulated the couple on their baby news, with Meghan, dressed in a form-fitting, sleeveless white dress by the Australian designer, Karen Gee, replying: "Thank you so much".

Harry and Meghan's tour - which will also see the couple take in New Zealand, Fiji and the Kingdom of Tonga - comes 25 years after the Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales, travelled Down Under for their first tour.

The trip will include attending the Invictus Games, a visit to a Sydney zoo and visit the rural Flying Doctor service.

Kensington Palace said there would be no change to the itinerary of Harry and Meghan's tour including to Fiji and Tonga, despite travel advice that pregnant women should consider not travelling to the countries because of the moderate Zika virus risk.

Congratulations, Meghan and Harry!

Harry and Meghan, who announced they are expecting their first child this morning, received one of their first baby gifts. "Wishing them all the best", May tweeted.

The climbers were on an expedition to make a new trekking route when their camp on Mount Gurja was swept away by a strong storm. They were led by Kim Chang-ho (49), a veteran climber who had reached all 148,000-m Himalayan peaks without supplemental oxygen.

"That coat dress was a dead giveaway!" one fan wrote, referencing the navy Givenchy dress Markle wore to Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's wedding on Friday.

"I love them. I think Meghan is great for royalty", she told AAP whole waiting.

Meghan, 37, is seen as a modernizing influence on the at times stodgy royal family, and she is credited by many with bringing happiness to Harry.

The gesture was a wedding gift to the royal couple from the NSW Government, announced when they tied the knot in May.

Prince Harry leaned down, expecting to be gifted his own bunch, but Dasha did not look thrilled with the prospect. It is all but mandatory for a major royal to have a charity project, and Meghan's choice addressed the biggest tragedy to befall Britain in the past years.

Regardless of gender or sex, Baby Sussex will supersede Prince Andrew in the royal line of succession and will also be seventh in line to the throne. It will be the couple's first child.

The news of a Royal baby surprised many, including Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove and Lady Cosgrove, who dispatched a staff member to hastily purchase a toy kangaroo with joey for their pregnant guest.
