Camp Fire burns through Northern California

Mass evacuations were ordered in California last night as wildfires spread quickly, fanned by powerful winds. The Mendocino Complex Fire, which was finally contained in August at more than 410,000 acres, ended up being the largest complex fire in recorded California history. People in some neighborhoods have been told to get out.

The fire in Paradise was reported shortly after daybreak Thursday. "The whole town's on fire", City Councilman Scott Lotter told the Sacramento Bee.

The flames are now threatening coastal areas further south, fire officials said.

More than 40,000 people were ordered to evacuate on November 8 when a fire tore through Paradise, California, according to reports.

The National Weather Service had predicted unsafe fire weather conditions in California because of Santa Ana winds, which roar in from the east and accelerate down California's north-to-south-oriented mountain slopes.

Officials have recovered the remains of five people from vehicles that were "overcome by" the raging fire in Butte County, the sheriff's department there announced on Friday morning.

Shari Bernacett said her husband tried to get people to leave the Paradise mobile home park they manage and had minutes to evacuate.

The full extent of the destruction is still unknown, but authorities believe up to 1,000 buildings have been destroyed - most of those in Paradise, a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) spokesman said.

A police officer who helped residents escape a wildfire bearing down on a Northern California town says the town has been devastated.

Lakers vs. Trail Blazers - Game Recap
We haven't had a lot of success against this franchise here in a long time or against this team period going a long way. When you're not making shots that means you've got to go to the other end and you've got to be really sharp.

Evacuations have been ordered in Butte County per CALFIRE.

With fires burning in both Northern and Southern California, the director of the Governor's Office of Emergency Services put the number of people forced from their homes at 157,000. If you or anyone you know happens to be anywhere near the Camp Fire, please evacuate to safety.

Mandatory evacuations are in placed for various parts of Los Angeles County as the fire spreads towards the Santa Monica Mountains.

The fire started in the early hours of the morning near Pulga, a small community surrounded by the Plumas National Forest, officials said. "They do have a auto, but they both are older and can be confused at times".

The fire then pushed southward, jumped the wide United States 101 freeway before dawn Friday and pushed into the Santa Monica range.

Butte County CalFire Chief Darren Read said Thursday the destruction in the town of Paradise could be upward of a thousand structures.

California is experiencing one of its worst fire years ever, with 251,610 hectares burned through Sunday in areas covered by Cal Fire, almost twice the amount during the same period of 2017 and almost triple the five-year average.

Fire officials anticipate the fire will reach the Pacific Ocean.
