Heather Nauert 'to replace Nikki Haley as USA envoy to UN'

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert is set to be the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, according to USA media reports.

Trump will send a tweet on Friday morning about choosing Nauert to replace the outgoing United Nations ambassador, Nikki Haley, who announced her resignation in October, Fox News reported, citing multiple sources.

Nauert's foreign policy experience is limited to her year-and-a-half tenure as State Department Spokesperson, plus half a year as the Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, plus one-episode cameo in Fox's foreign-policy drama "24" which is all about worldwide diplomatic crises.

Back in October, Nauert, a former Fox News host, was believed to be a "leading contender" for the position, sources familiar with the selection process said at the time.

Perhaps feeling some affinity for another TV star with limited political experience, Bloomberg claims that Trump will chose ex-Fox & Friends star Heather Nauert as the US' next ambassador to the United Nations. Nauert would need to be confirmed by the Senate before taking up the role.

Trump expected to pick State spokeswoman for UN ambassador

"I expect to continue to speak out from time to time on important public policy matters, but I will surely not be a candidate for any office in 2020", she said.

But Trump has also used the United Nations to try to advance his foreign policy agenda on Iran and North Korea.

Ms Nauert was made state department spokeswoman in April 2017, her first government position.

One of the reports came from Fox News, where Ms Nauert has previously worked as a presenter. Now, she is poised to serve as the United States' permanent representative to the UN's 193 member nations.

Shut out from the top by Tillerson and his inner circle, Nauert developed relationships with career diplomats.

Trump in turn has been effusive in his praise of Bush since his death Friday, and paid respects Monday night at the U.S. None of that means, however, that Jeb Bush and President Trump's differences have been resolved.
