3rd team enters Bucks’ trade with Cavs, sending Sam Dekker to Wizards

The Washington Wizards will join the trade between the Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland Cavaliers to acquire Sam Dekker for Jason Smith and a future second round pick.

The Cavaliers are getting a 2021 first-round pick from Milwaukee and a 2022 second-round pick from Washington.

However, with his perimeter touch turned wonky (4 of 32 on 3-pointers, 12.5%), Mahinmi healthy and Mike Scott making 3-pointers, Smith largely fell out of the rotation last season. The Cavs have been very aggressive in looking to move out veterans for future picks, now having acquired four future selections in the past 10 days, including a trade that sent Kyle Korver to Utah. Now in his 11th National Basketball Association season, Hill has averaged 11.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 679 games. Milwaukee also receives power forward Jason Smith in the trade. He brings us veteran leadership, a guy that has won before, a guy who is going to push Collin (Sexton) and control the game for the second unit.

Dellavedova could play in the Cavaliers' Saturday night home game against the Washington Wizards, and will quickly renew acquaintances with his former teammates on the Bucks.

Henson, 27, hasn't played in a month, recently had wrist surgery and is expected to miss several months. In three seasons with Cleveland, the Aussie averaged 5.8 points, 3.7 assists and 0.5 steals in 21.0 minutes per game while shooting 39.5 percent from the field and 39.8 percent from three-point range. "We lost George, which was my vet, so I'll have to talk to Dellavedova and he'll be able to lead me how George led me".

But a week is a long time in the National Basketball Association and money talks, the deal set to save the Bucks nearly US$18 million in salary in 2019-20 - cash they can throw at a bumper free agent class that could include the likes of Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson.

Henson's departure also opens up more game time for Maker who started the season on the bench but has been playing more in recent weeks.

"This trade allows us to continue to work to improve our team and gives us a young, developing player in Sam whose versatility and athleticism at the forward position will allow him to earn an opportunity to contribute", said Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld in a statement released by the team. Dekker, out since suffering an ankle injury on November 5, was expected to be available Saturday when the Cavaliers hosted the Wizards.
