Michael Cohen On Trump: 'The Man Doesn't Tell The Truth'

Michael Cohen, center, President Donald Trump's former lawyer, accompanied by his children Samantha, left, and Jake, right, arrives at federal court for his sentencing in New York, Dec. 12, 2018. The man doesn't tell the truth.

Prosecutors have said Cohen, just before the November 2016 election, paid Ms Daniels US$130,000 and helped arrange the US$150,000 payment to Ms McDougal so the women would keep quiet. The payments were meant to buy their silence about the alleged liaisons with Trump a decade before he sought the presidency. "He directed me to become involved in these matters, including the one with McDougal", Cohen said.

"Here is the truth: The people of the United States of America, the people of the world don't believe what he's saying".

The prosecutors said American Media knew corporations such as itself were subject to campaign finance laws that forbid payments "made for purposes of influencing an election and in coordination with or at the request of a candidate or campaign". "He was a lawyer and he is supposed to know the law".

The President's lawyer Rudy Giuliani slammed Cohen, telling CNN the public can't believe a thing Cohen says and that Cohen lied under oath, referencing Cohen's guilty plea in November to lying to Congress. Trump denies those claims.

"Reasonable people can disagree about whether it's wrong to pay hush money to somebody to stop them from disclosing alleged improprieties sexually".

In a separate development, The New York Times and Wall Street Journal reported that federal prosecutors have opened another line of election-related inquiry, investigating whether foreigners illegally funnelled donations to Trump's inaugural committee and a pro-Trump super PAC.

Michael Cohen - who for more than a decade was a key power player in the Trump Organization and a fixture in Trump's political life - said he "gave loyalty to someone who, truthfully, does not deserve loyalty".

On whether his players are becoming more adaptable in changing systems he admitted: "We are preparing differently and tactically". I don't know how we are going to play in midweek but I do know that I have enough players to cope.

Cohen also insisted that the president has been lying when it comes to associations with Russian Federation, and he suggested that his former boss is afraid of Cohen's testimony - that, he said, explains why the president keeps attacking him on Twitter. "Let me tell you, I never directed him to do anything wrong".

Loyalty has always been a core value for Trump, who has been stung by the behavior of Cohen and other former associates who have dissociated themselves from the president, intent on saving themselves.

"I don't think there's anybody that believes that", Cohen told ABC News of Trump's denials. The payments came in the days before Trump's 2016 election, and both Cohen and the head of the supermarket tabloid the National Enquirer admitted that the timing was based on helping Trump win the presidency. "He attacks my family", Cohen said.

As the courtroom drama unfolded Wednesday, Trump remained largely silent and ignored reporters' questions about Cohen during an executive order signing event at the White House.

When asked specifically about Cohen's claims that Trump had directed Cohen to make the payments, Gidley said: "I understand that". The Republican president told Fox News on Thursday Cohen did only "low-level work" for him, mostly in public relations.

Reiterating something he said in court Wednesday, Cohen said he feels unburdened by acknowledging what he did for Trump. "Those records tell me there was no meeting", he said, but then added, "I'm not anxious about the meeting".

"The special counsel stated emphatically that the information that I gave to them was credible and helpful", he told ABC's George Stephanopoulos during an interview.
