Catriona Gray: 'I'll forever be your Miss Philippines'

Gray succeeds the 2017 victor, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa.

Catriona Gray bagged the fourth Miss Universe crown for the Philippines on Monday morning, December 17.

She beat out 93 other contestants including Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green, who was the runner-up, and second runner-up Miss Venezuela Sthefany Gutierrez.

Gray, who, is half-Scottish and half-Filipino and was born in Cairns, Australia, wore a sparkling red dress inspired by both the Philippines' Mayon Volcano and a dream her mother had when she was 13 that she would "win Miss Universe in a red dress", reported AP.

The ceremony also featured the first transgender woman, Spain's Angela Ponce to compete in the miss universe pageant.

Sen. Benigno0 "Bam" Aquino 4th said: "Congratulations to Miss Philippines, now Miss Universe Catriona Gray".

She is a 24-year-old with a Master's in music theory. "The Filipinos will be by your side in your Miss Universe journey", Poe said in her message for Gray.

"I'm for it being used for medical use, but not so for recreational use". Apart from Catriona Gray, the other front-runners are Miss Puerto Rico Kiara Ortega, Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green, Miss India Nehal Chudasama.

During the fashion show elements of the program, Gray dazzled in the evening gown competition and sizzled in a swimsuit. She became a crowd-favourite during the Miss Universe competition, largely down to her wit, and was crowned victor aged just 18. Ahead of the show, Miss USA stirred up controversy when she seemed to mock Miss Vietnam and Miss Cambodia for not speaking English but she later apologized.

Unfortunately Australia's contestant, Francesca Hung, finished outside of the top ten, but we're sure Catriona's former classmates at Trinity Anglican School will be calling it a win for Australia nonetheless.

Gray said: "When I saw her earlier, she said, 'I dreamed this.' She had tears in her eyes".

Contestants selected for the top 5 are pictured during the final round of the Miss Universe pageant in Bangkok, Thailand, on Sun., Dec. 16, 2018.

The pageant was hosted once again by Steve Harvey and model Ashley Graham at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, which also featured a performance by Ne-Yo.

'I feel when you reach a certain age, you develop an appreciation for what Tagalog is - the poetry of it and history of it as well as how it represents our culture'. The lava walk went insane viral, with people tagging supermodel Tyra Banks and exclaiming how proud she'd be of that heart-stopping walk and ideal twirl!

Pichai follows in the footsteps of Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey-both of whom have testified over the last few months. Pichai's no-show at that hearing was marked by an empty chair for Google alongside the Facebook and Twitter executives.
