LeBron James leads pack in early All-Star voting

Last year Stephen Curry and LeBron James were the team captains, but with James' arrival in Los Angeles it looks like Curry will relinquish his spot as Western Conference captain.

Chasing a starting berth were New Orleans star big man Anthony Davis at 605,417 and Oklahoma City's Paul George on 580,055 with New Zealand center Steven Adams of Oklahoma City next on 261,327.

To determine the All-Star Game captains and starters, the National Basketball Association weighs the results of fan voting (which accounts for 50 percent of the vote) against votes from current National Basketball Association players (25 percent) and media members (25 percent).

Can the Thunder get three players to the NBA All-Star Game in February? Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has the second most votes overall, followed by Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving.

In other words, Wade will also need to finish among the top vote-getters on the players' and media's ballots to have a real chance to start in this year's All-Star Game.

Wade is the only Heat player among the top 10 in the voting among guards or frontcourt players.

Antetokounmpo has been an NBA All-Star the last two years and received 991,561 votes in the frontcourt group to lead the Eastern conference. Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins - who hasn't played an National Basketball Association game in almost 12 months due to a ruptured left Achilles tendon - is 10th among Western Conference frontcourt players.

And that's just the Western Conference.

Voting will conclude on Monday, Jan. 21 at 8:59pm PT. Reserves will be announced January 31.

This season's All-Star starters will be revealed on January 24.

The leading vote-getter from each conference is selected as a captain for their respective team in the All-Star Game. You can expect the All-Star draft to be televised on TNT.
