Quotable quote: "I think there's a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct than about being morally right".

As many historians, economists, and informed citizens were forced to point out in the wake of the freak-out over a proposal by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to raise the current tax rate on the very wealthiest Americans to 70 percent, such a rate is not at all unprecedented and higher rates were the norm for a large portion of last century.

"If you can't take the heat, then get out of the kitchen", she continued.

Ocasio-Cortez on Sunday accused GOP lawmakers of "hostage-taking" with their demands for border security in a new spending bill. After Cooper pressed her to explain, she added, "The president certainly didn't invent racism, but he's certainly given a voice to it, and expanded it, and created a platform for those things".

"This is going to be the Great Society, the Moon Shot, the Civil Rights movement of our generation", she said at a town hall event with Sen. "She cited the $21 trillion figure and said '66% of Medicare for All could have been funded already by the Pentagon.' That's a direct comparison". Her comment referenced the fact that her proposed tax increase would only apply to Americans who make more than $10 million each year.

Ocasio-Cortez has called the aim - funded in part by slapping a tax as high as 70 percent on top earners - "a wartime-level, just economic mobilization plan to get to 100 percent renewable energy".

Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez issued an apology to Donald Trump Jr, the son of the United States president, over her own tweet posted on 7 December. "How do you not know how marginal tax rates work?"

Ocasio-Cortez's one-eyed House colleague, Crenshaw, complimented her dancing by tweeting, "No one thinks this [dancing video] is scandalous", Crenshaw tweeted.
