Cleveland Browns hire Freddie Kitchens as head coach

Baker Mayfield pre-Freddie Kitchens as his OC: 130-of-223 (56.5%), 1,471 yards, 8 TD, 6 INT.

ESPN was first to announce the decision. Under the new leadership, the Browns went 5-3 to finish the season, while the offense and Baker Mayfield took off.

However, just one day before the report of Kitchens taking the reigns in Cleveland, Bruce Arians finalized a deal to become the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, taking most of his staff from his previous tenure in Arizona with him.

With Kitchens running the offense, Baker Mayfield became a star, and the offense put up big numbers in winning five of the final eight games, and almost beat the eventual AFC North Champion Ravens on the road in week 17.

It's a spectacular rise for Kitchens, who began the season as the team's running backs coach.

The Vikings reportedly also are interested in former National Football League head coaches Mike Mularkey and Dirk Koetter for the offensive coordinator position. In the last three games in Cleveland, Kitchens led the Browns offense to the second best passing offense and the 13th ranked rushing offense on a yards per game basis.

Brahim Diaz, one of Man City's best prospects, only has six months left on his contract at the reigning Premier League champions. The Spanish youth worldwide came through City's youth academy and has made 15 first-team appearances for the English side.

Williams took over a Browns team that was 2-5-1 to start the year and put them in playoff contention by December.

In addition to the Browns deciding to promote Kitchens to head coach, the team has chose to move on from Gregg Williams and his defensive staff, per ESPN.

As the team's success grew, Kitchens never campaigned to be Cleveland's coach but leading a team was always a goal.

The hires mean that only the Jets, Dolphins and Bengals remain in the hunt for their next head coach. "You have a resume that you check off the list and everything?" They (Dorsey) know me well enough. "I love the town of Cleveland".

Kitchens is the fourth coach hired by the Haslams since they bought the team in 2012.
