As Jayme Closs starts her road to recovery following her kidnapping, investigators are trying to piece together what happened during the almost three months she was in captivity.

Elizabeth Smart, who was 14 when she was kidnapped at knifepoint from her Salt Lake City home in 2002, told The Associated Press that everyone endures different mental and psychological trauma after kidnappings, but Jayme will have to confront the fact that there "is no going back to the way things were".

Douglas County Sheriff Tom Dalbec says his office received a 911 call at about 4:30 p.m. saying Jayme Closs had been located. Authorities are trying to track down their movements over the past three months to see what they can learn.

Fitzgerald said the alleged abduction of Jayme was the suspect's goal and that Jayme was "the only target".

"She said to us: 'This person killed my parents and took me, '" Kasinskas added.

Jayme told one of the neighbors in Gordon who took her in that she had walked away from a cabin where she had been held.

"I was elected to keep people safe and not having that unknown out there", Fitzgerald said on Fox & Friends. "Did he buy food?" he said.

"He didn't know Jayme, he didn't know (her parents) Denise or Jim", Naiberg said.

The Sheriff also stated that it has come to light that Patterson did work at Jennie-O 3 years ago for less than 2 days, however, there is no indication that he had any contact with Jayme's parents.

Police believe that when the suspect was stopped in his vehicle by police Thursday, he was out looking for Jayme. He was being held in Barron County's jail on preliminary charges of intentional homicide and kidnapping, and will have an initial court appearance Monday.

"The fact that Jayme did what she did and got out is unbelievably awesome", said the woman at the cafe.

"Jayme was the champion that finally said enough is enough", he told CNN's "Anderson Cooper Full Circle" Friday, "We can't be more proud of Jayme".

Jayme was taken to a hospital in Minnesota after she was found, her aunt, Sue Allard, said.

On Thursday, after being missing for close to three months, Jayme approached a stranger near the small, isolated north woods town of Gordon, Wisconsin and pleaded for help.

Fitzgerald says investigators have recovered more than one gun, including a shotgun consistent with the type of gun used to kill Jayme's parents, James and Denise Closs.

The grandfather of a northwest U.S. girl held captive for months says the family has no connection to the man suspected of kidnapping her and killing her parents. As an example, Fitzgerald has said Patterson shaved his head to avoid leaving any hair as evidence during the assault. When police stepped inside the family's home, they found the parents dead but no sign of Jayme.

The sheriff said that he did not know if Jayme had been physically abused but that she was hospitalized overnight for observation and released.

Detectives pursued thousands of tips, watched dozens of surveillance videos and conducted numerous searches in the effort to find Jayme. I can't wait to get my arms around her.

Jayme's aunt, Jennifer Smith, posted the photos on Facebook.
