Nantes Demand Payment From Cardiff City For Emiliano Sala

Cardiff City have been left stunned after Nantes demanded payment for the £15million transfer of Emiliano Sala, who is missing and feared dead, after his flight went off-radar on a journey from France to Cardiff.

The BBC claims that Nantes have threatened the Welsh club with legal action if the payment is not made within the next 10 days.

A search team found wreckage of the plane on Sunday in the English Channel, but bodies have not been recovered or identified.

According to the source, the first instalment of the 17-million-euro ($19.3 million) deal for the Argentine striker has yet to be paid, despite the transfer being finalised before the accident.

Authorities haven't said if the body located by an underwater camera was Sala or pilot David Ibbotson, the only people on board.

After a series of phone calls from the French club, Cardiff received the first letter from Nantes' lawyers more than a week ago.

However, Cardiff are yet to pay the first installment with the club still mulling over the details of the contract especially regarding recent developments surrounding the tragic incident.

The families of Sala, Cardiff City's record signing at £15 million, and Ibbotson have been informed of the discovery.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) are now trying to recover a body from the wreckage, although there is no confirmation whether the body identified is Sala's.

BBC Wales has learned the transfer fee is due to be paid in installments over three years with his former club Bourdeaux also entitled to a cut of the fee, thought to be 50 percent after Sala was on their books from 2012-2015 before joining Nantes.
