Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos Accuses 'National Enquirer' Of Extortion Over Personal Photos

In an extraordinary blog post published Thursday on, Bezos said AMI threatened to publish intimate photos of him unless he stopped investigating how the Enquirer obtained his private exchanges with his mistress.

The inquiry has been led by Gavin de Becker, who is the billionaire's long-term head of security. The National Enquirer's parent company, American Media, Inc., responded to Bezos's investigation by threatening to publish revealing photos of Bezos if he did not agree to publicly state that the Enquirer's coverage was not politically motivated or influenced by political forces.

Earlier in the day, the company said it "acted lawfully" while reporting the story and engaged in "good-faith negotiations" with Bezos.

American Media continued to say that its company board will thoroughly investigate claims made by Bezos to the contrary, and take whatever resulting action was deemed necessary. AMI has had close links with U.S. President Donald Trump, who has attacked Bezos, Amazon and the newspaper he owns privately, the Washington Post, on Twitter.

Bezos and his wife announced in January that they were getting a divorce after 25 years of marriage, following a period of "loving exploration" and trial separation.

"Of course I don't want personal photos published", Mr Bezos wrote in his blog post before adding: "I prefer to stand up, roll this log over, and see what crawls out".

It is with a heavy heart I report to you that according to Jeff Bezos, there are Jeff Bezos dick pics, and the richest man on the planet was being blackmailed by the president's favorite supermarket tabloid.

Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to aiding the payment to McDougal and other crimes, for which he'll begin serving a three-year federal prison sentence next month.

Trump says to meet North Korea's Kim in Vietnam in late February
Kim Jong Un's move could therefore help him consolidate bilateral relations and also learn from Vietnam's economic transformation. Moments after threatening a nuclear arms race with Russia, Trump explained how he believes his 2016 election saved the world.

In his Medium post, Bezos wrote: "Rather than capitulate to extortion and blackmail, I've chose to publish exactly what they sent me, despite the personal cost and embarrassment they threaten".

Ronan Farrow, one of the reporters who covered the Trump-Enquirer alliance, tweeted on Thursday that he and "at least one other prominent journalist" had been on the receiving end of American Media's "blackmail efforts".

Assuming that is the case, AMI has gone to extraordinarily great lengths to ensure that its publication of explicit text messages between Bezos and his lover Lauren Sanchez does not come across as politically motivated.

Pointing at connections between Pecker, AMI and the government of Saudi Arabia, Bezos said he learned that "Pecker is ´apoplectic´ about our investigation", and that "the Saudi angle seems to hit a particularly sensitive nerve".

A judge confirmed in a court filing on Thursday that federal prosecutors in NY were still investigating campaign finance crimes committed when Cohen paid two women to stay silent about alleged affairs with Trump before he became president.

In its January 9 story, the Enquirer said reporters followed Bezos and Sanchez "across five states and 40,000 miles" and "tailed them in private jets, swanky limos, helicopter rides, romantic hikes, five-star hotel hideaways, intimate dinner dates and "quality time" in hidden love nests".

This has been the focus of Mr Bezos' private investigators. The tech magnate also said that AMI's ties to President Donald Trump suggest that the publisher has political motivations. Interestingly, Sanchez is now a subject of the investigation being conducted by de Becker.
