Kyler Murray Picks NFL over Major League Baseball

He is officially dedicating himself to a full-time football career, bypassing the opportunity, at least for now, to play professional baseball.

It is a devastating blow for the A's, who drafted Murray as an outfielder with the ninth pick of the 2018 Major League Baseball draft.

Kyler Murray has made up his mind.

"Things have certainly changed since the draft", Billy Beane, Oakland's executive vice president of baseball operations, said before the announcement.

Heisman Trophy victor Kyler Murray has committed his future to football.

At the end of the college football season, he talked about pursuing both sports simultaneously.

As of right now, it seems the team will rely on veteran QB Eli Manning, but if they choose to select a QB that they like, they have an assortment of tall quarterbacks that include 6′"3 Dwayne Haskins, 6′"4 Drew Lock, and 6′"5 Daniel Jones".

Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders played football and baseball, but both men played less demanding positions: Jackson was a running back and Sanders a cornerback. "To say somebody could or couldn't, I'm not here to say that".

Murray announced his decision to exclusively concentrate on the gridiron Monday on Twitter. More specifically, ESPN's Jeff Passan tweets that Murray will return $1.29MM of the $1.5MM of his signing bonus that has been paid out to him so far. With as many draft picks as the Patriots have this year no player is off limits, so don't be surprised to see members of the organization checking out Murray over the next few weeks. He already received $1.5 million of his signing bonus and was to receive an additional $3.16 million on March 1.
