President Trump Says Rep. Omar's Apology for Israel Tweets Was 'Lame'

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., who has faced accusations of anti-Semitism for perpetuating the stereotype that Jews control politics with money, issued an apology Monday afternoon, a mea culpa amid a firestorm of criticism from both parties.

The outrage over Omar began on Sunday, in a response to a tweet about how she and Tlaib could face action over criticizing Israel.

In her apology, the Minnesota representative said, "Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes".

This was Omar's second anti-Semitic tweet.

AIPAC, however, does not give members of Congress campaign donations. Former president George H.W. Bush once said "I'm just a little, alone man opposing thousands of lobbyists in Capitol Hill" regarding a disagreement with AIPAC on mortgage loan guarantees to be given to Israel.

Omar's comments come on the heels of escalating Republican ire for the positions that she and Tlaib have put forth in Congress, joining a small group of lawmakers willing to challenge the United States' traditional support for Israeli policy.

Meanwhile, Omar isn't the only Muslim lawmaker to make anti-Semitic remarks.

"I think it was a awful statement, and I don't think her apology was adequate", he said.

The embattled lieutenant governor of Virginia was accused by two women of sexual assault, including rape by one of the women. The next in line would be attorney general Mark Herring , who-guess what-also has a history of blackface.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Omar's comments were unacceptable and he would take disciplinary action against her if Democrats did not act on their own. Both congresswomen have criticized Israel and support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement that pressures Israel to withdraw from West Bank settlements. "I think she should either resign from Congress or she should certainly resign from the Foreign Affairs Committee".

Ocasio-Cortez's deflection to the president on the question of anti-Semitism is not the first time that she has used this tactic to try to get the attention off of the Left's problem with anti-Semitism.

McCarthy urged Democratic leaders to admonish Omar and Tlaib for their backing of the BDS movement, which is meant to put economic pressure on Israel to end its occupation of the West Bank. Sen.

Forward opinion editor Batya Ungar-Sargon asked her to clarify who is "paying American politicians to be pro-Israel".

We are and will always be strong supporters of Israel in Congress because we understand that our support is based on shared values and strategic interests.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaks at the 2018 AIPAC policy conference, at Washington Convention Center, March 6, 2018, in Washington. She has countless times reiterated that her rejection of the Israeli government refers to its stance toward Palestinians and is not directed at Jewish people.

The BDS movement according to their own website, "works to end global support for Israel's oppression of Palestinians and pressure Israel to comply with worldwide law".

She said the statement came in the context of Israel's treatment of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. She earlier apologized for tweeting in 2012 that "Israel had hypnotized the world". Several of those Democrats had raised concerns that the bill's bid to rein in anti-Israel boycott efforts risked violating the constitutional rights of activists, although all the senators are opposed to the Palestinian-led push itself.
