CAPTAIN MARVEL can’t quite crack its own mystery

That goes for both in front of and behind the camera.

This exceeded the number of advance tickets sold for other Marvel solo superhero films: "Black Panther" (180,000), "Doctor Strange" (110,000) and "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (80,000), two days ahead of their releases in South Korea, according to Walt Disney Company Korea that distributes "Captain Marvel". Not surprisingly, it serves as a way of tying this film into other MCU films. This movie is exciting, funny, unique and weird, all in equal measure. Sure, there's a lot more going on in Captain Marvel, but it's a pretty egregious failing considering that the creative bigwigs at Marvel had 10 years and 20 films to work it out.

It's a period piece, as the World War II adventure "Captain America: The First Avenger" was, but this time set in 1995. What Boden, Fleck, and co-writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet have done here to try and spice things up is give Vers' amnesia so that she doesn't even know her real name let alone where she came from.

The rest of the cast is rounded out by Jude Law as Yon-Rogg, Annette Bening as the Supreme Intelligence, and Clark Gregg as Coulson. The actress, who is the first female superhero in the Marvel Universe, lit up red carpet in a custom, sparkling gold gown by Rodarte. But strong performers like Lee Pace, Gemma Chan and Djimon Hounsou are frittered away in underdeveloped roles and Ronan, Minerva and Korath. Between a heavy 1990s soundtrack and Pinar Toprak's score, the film makes for a nice homage to the decade. Brie Larson is the boss of space. It felt like an MCU Phase 1 movie or that last Star Trek Beyond film that was supposed to get back to its roots but just felt a bit like the back end of the aforementioned. Boden and Fleck lean in to the science fiction aspects of the flick way more than expected, resulting in something rather odd at times.

He said the girls were examined by paramedics and the initial assessment showed they were dehydrated and cold. The girls told rescuers that they had got lost following a deer trail and made the decision to stay put.

Fanboys who had made it their misguided mission to steer clear of Captain Marvel should rethink their agenda.

Captain Marvel feeds right in to Avengers: Endgame, though not in the way you might be expecting.

Associated Press seems to feel around the same as NPR, though while NPR seemed perfectly content to get more of the same, AP was underwhelmed, calling the film an "average introduction".

Larson's potential career-altering film came less than two months after a report claimed in early January, that she ended her engagement with Alex Greenwald, 39. Instead of following the 1977 narrative, where she was the victim in an explosion that would give her powers, DeConnick re-writes the narrative as a choice. The mystery of her origin is ultimately uninteresting, and it deprives Captain Marvel of a character arc or any notable weaknesses. Captain Marvel is definitely a top ten MCU outing, and potentially even a top five one. "This takes a while to really get going, but when Carol Danvers takes off she is unstoppable". Ignore the internet trolls and make it your business to see this film. There's a mid-movie shifting of alliances, and a homeless-refugee subplot (at one point, a despotic ruler declares that the enemy will "threaten our borders no more!") destined to trigger cries of Social Justice Warrior Syndrome from certain basement-level quarters. Undeniably, though, Marvel producer Kevin Feige has figured out how to inject some idiosyncrasy and personality into most of his products, especially when stacked up against the leaden DC Comics line. Newcomers won't be lost, but MCU diehards will be thrilled with the little details here.
