"Statistically it's my best season, and I like to say that because the way he's [Sarri] thinking is the same way I think about football", Hazard told BBC Football Focus, despite a debut season in the England's top flight that has seen Sarri garner mixed reviews.

"Chelsea have done everything they can to show that they love him and want him to stay, but he has one year left on his contract and he is in a controlling position to negotiate".

"(We will try to persuade him) that we are trying to improve, to become one of the best teams in England, and as a outcome in Europe, but I think I have to respect his decision".

Hazard has made no secret of his desire to move to Spain, with Real manager Zinedine Zidane having been vocal in his admiration for the player.

Asked if he had always planned to bring Hazard off the bench, Sarri replied: "No, at the beginning of the match I wanted him on the bench because I thought that, probably, the match was really very hard".

"Great players are always welcome, but we have a great squad already, and we will win things again".

He said of the Croatia worldwide midfielder: "I don't think Chelsea should pursue Kovacic".

Arsenal and Everton have both held talks with Ajax winger David Neres before a proposed £34.5m move to the Premier League.

Hazard was rested ahead of Chelsea's huge clash against league leaders Liverpool on Sunday, but the Italian boss clearly felt the need to change the game just after the interval by bringing on his star forward.

"Two years in a row not playing Champions League is hard for the players but also for the club", he added.

"He (Hudson-Odoi) is in my mind for the next match but I have to see in the last two training sessions".

"The end of the season could be wonderful if we win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League for next season".
