Emmet County pet impoundment rate doubles

Emmet County officials raised rates from $15 to $30 when pet owners retrieve their impounded pets. Future policy changes may also include an increase in allocation to the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society.

PETOSKEY — Fees will be raising for Emmet County people whose stray animals are caught and impounded by animal management.

At their conference final week, Emmet County commissioners authorised an ordinance transform that will double the existing fee animal homeowners have to pay back to retrieve their animals just after they have been discovered unfastened in the community. The previous level of $15 had not adjusted in a long time, according to earlier experiences. Originally, officers were being taking into consideration raising the payment to $20, but commissioner David Bachelor mentioned according to his investigation, that would still place Emmet County at the least expensive in the region.

“I assume 20 is super low cost for responsibility to decide on up your animal who bought absent,” he claimed. “Because immediately after speaking with the stray middle and some other individuals in that field, there is a large amount of regular flyers, and I think probably if they obtained slapped a very little bit more, maybe that would not occur.”
