Most Important Vitamins For the Winter

Winter Vitamins To Take >> Essential Nutrition Tips

The colder months are just around the corner or as Jon Snow would say “Winter is coming”. It is more important than ever to have a well-balanced diet when the temperature begins to drop. There are many nutrients that are important when it comes to the later part of the year due to all of the colds and viruses that are floating around. Here are some of the most important vitamins and minerals that you should be making sure that you are getting.

Vitamin D

Arguably one of the most important vitamins when it comes to winter. It is even more important for those that are constantly indoors. Whether that is working in a factory or in an office. When it gets to winter, you will be seeing very little sunlight. Meaning that your body won’t produce enough vitamin D, if any at all.

There are some foods that contain vitamin D so that we can get our daily requirement. However, for those that are vegetarian/ vegan, it can be difficult for those to find it in their diet. Even in the foods that you can eat, it only contains a little amount. Musically, you are going to struggle to have vitamin D in your diet. The recommended amount for vitamin D is that adults need around 10 micrograms of vitamin D a day. That equals to 400 international units a day. If you are struggling to have enough vitamin D a day in your diet then experts would recommend you take vitamin D tablets each day. However, before you begin to take any supplements, we recommend that you take a blood test with your local GP.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is another nutrient that our body is heavily reliant on. In fact, there are many people out there that believe that getting enough vitamin C will help you during the cold and flu season. However, this is not the case. Yes, it does reduce the severity of any cold’s and flu’s that you might catch although it cannot prevent them.

Our bodies require a lot of vitamin C each day. Luckily enough for you, it is very easy to have it in your diet. There are many fruits and vegetables out there that are rich in nutrients such as vitamin C. Vitamin C does improve the immune system so it is important that you eat those foods that are rich in vitamin C. Foods that you should be looking out for are: Cranberries, Leafy Greens, bell peppers and citrus fruits. If you struggle with any of these then consider vitamin C tablets for your diet.

Vitamin B

This is a vitamin that vegetarians and vegans will struggle to get. There are several B vitamins that have multiple jobs when it comes to our body. Make sure that you eat your red meats, whole grains, legumes, and leafy greens to get your B vitamins.

Conclusion

There are many nutrients that our body needs to remain healthy. This is why a balanced diet is so important for your health. A balanced diet is not only there for you to have a healthy weight but it is also for doing all of the bodily functions that are required.
