Hi everyone!  March flew by so fast and Spring is such a fun time in NYC so head out have a great weekend.


Head out this weekend and enjoy the Bay Ridge St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Dance for Ukraine at Spoke the Hub, Trailblazers: A Kids Concert Celebrating Women in Classical Music at Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, First Discoveries at Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Family Friendly Bird Walk in Brooklyn Bridge Park, Family Fun: Irish Dance at Mark Morris Dance Center, Spring Children’s Garden Family Day at Queens Botanical Garden, The Rock and Roll Playhouse: Women Who Rock in Rockefeller Center, La MaMa Kids: The Great Zodiac Animal Race at The Downstairs Lobby, Hopalong Andrew Outdoor Concert in Cadman Plaza Park, Con Edison’s Family Science at Greenbelt Nature Center, Reptile Edventure with Erik Callender and the Opening Day of the Macy’s Flower Show.

Friday March 25th

First Discoveries at Brooklyn Botanic Garden
Friday March 25th 1030a-1230p (last event of the early Spring session). Free with Garden admission. This is a drop-in program for families with children ages 0–5. Calling all explorers (and their caregivers)! Learn about winter plants and nature in the Discovery Garden. Touch and smell plants, read a story, pot up a plant, or create a nature craft to take home. Activities rotate weekly. All programs are outdoors and canceled in inclement weather. Note: Spring session starts Wednesday April 6th.

Hopalong Andrew Outdoor Concert in Cadman Plaza Park (Brooklyn Heights)
Fridays 1030a. $20/family. Location: near Memorial Wall. $20/family. Hopalong Andrew plays interactive concerts geared for all-age enjoyment, singing the great folk songs, fireside ballads, and cowboy favorites of the silver screen. Hopalong Andrew performs as a rollicking 1-man band, bringing his guitar, banjo, harmonica, and suitcase drum kit. Weather questionable? If he is cancelling he will post on IG/FB about 45 min/hour before. Otherwise it’s ON.  Hopalong Andrew has outdoor concerts all over Brooklyn. Wake Up, Daisy! at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)
Fridays-Sundays 11-1145 (doors 1030a) & 1-145p (doors 1230p) until 12/31/22. Tickets: $12 adult, $8 child. Purchase tickets here. Location: 79th Street and West Drive Central Park. Wake Up, Daisy! tells the story of Daisy, a lively little girl living in the heart of New York City in an apartment overlooking Central Park. At Daisy’s much-anticipated birthday party, she encounters three special guests, known as her “Squad-parents”, from Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx who grant her the gifts of courage, knowledge, and a second chance. When an unwelcome guest shows up and casts a curse on her, Daisy’s life is forever changed. But through the support of her friends and an adventure throughout the city, Daisy’s strong self-determination and vivid imagination may be all she needs to break the curse.

Reptile Edventure with Erik Callender (virtual)
Friday March 25th 4-5p. Free. This Live Stream Reptile Edventure is a fun-filled educational experience that allows participants the unique opportunity to see and learn about some of the world’s most fascinating creatures, the reptiles and amphibians. Participants will see live animals, including bugs, frogs, toads, lizards, turtles and snakes from around the world. Tune in on YouTube, or on the Queens Public Library Facebook page.

Saturday March 26th

Family Fun: Irish Dance at Mark Morris Dance Center (Fort Greene)
Saturday March 26th 11a-12n. Tickets: $30 for family of 2-3, $40 for family 4-6. Learn the basics of Irish dance in this exciting class that uses traditional dance reels to understand the unique sounds of Irish music. Your family will learn solo steps and group dances (Ceili).

The Rock and Roll Playhouse: Women Who Rock in Rockefeller Center
Saturday March 26th 11a-2p. Free. Signup required. Location: Center Plaza. Join us for Rockefeller Center’s new monthly live singalong series with The Rock and Roll Playhouse. Dance, play and rock out with the band to top rock hits, experience the classics every month with a fun twist the whole family can enjoy!

La MaMa Kids: The Great Zodiac Animal Race at The Downstairs Lobby (Bowery)
Saturday March 26th 2p & Sunday March 27th 12n. Tickets: $10. Suitable for ages 5+. Growing up in Hawai’i, Tom Lee’s memories of Lunar New Year included narcissus blooms, tasty dim sum dishes and bowing to your elders before running off to your room to open your lucky red envelope with money in it! This charming shadow puppet show retells the classic Lunar New Year zodiac tale with animals inspired by Asian languages and pictograms.

Trailblazers: A Kids Concert Celebrating Women in Classical Music at Brooklyn Conservatory of Music (Park Slope)
Saturday March 26th 5p. Tickets: $12 adults, $8 children. Join us for our upcoming family concert featuring works by female classical composers! Our fantastic Suzuki strings and piano students will present pieces by a variety of women composers. Returning emcee Annie Lee Moffett will introduce our performers and lead a discussion on classical music, exploring what defines the genre and how female composers have played a role. This concert is for music-lovers of all ages, but is especially geared towards kids age 8 and older.

Dance for Ukraine at Spoke the Hub (Park Slope)
Saturday March 26th 5-11p. Suggested donation $25 per person per workshop. Give more if you can, less if you can’t – come add your good energy to this global humanitarian effort! An Evening of Social Dancing to Benefit Ukranian Humanitarian Relief Efforts. WORKSHOPS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY. 5-6p DROP IN ART TABLE Provided By Private Picassos with a large scale Ukrainian Easter-Egg Coloring Sheet; come learn some energetic UKRAINIAN & RUSSIAN FOLK DANCES too! 6-7p: POLKA PARTY! – w/ Elise Long (Director / Spoke the Hub). Sunday March 27th

Family Friendly Bird Walk in Brooklyn Bridge Park
Sunday March 27th 10-11a. Free. Location: Pier 1. Spaces are limited, sign up here! This walk is designed for kids ages 5-10 years and their grownups. Join Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy Educators on a family-friendly bird walk around Pier 1. Field guides and binoculars will be available for borrowing. If you have your own binoculars, even better!

Opening Day of the Macy’s Flower Show
Sunday March 27th 11a=9p and daily until Sunday April 10th. No tickets are required. Macy’s Flower Show is free & open to the public during store hours. For store hours, please visit macys.com. Macy’s Flower Show is open at Herald Square on Sunday. You can view the complete guide of the Covid-19  safety precautions here.

Bay Ridge St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Sunday March 27th 1p. Free. The parade will run along 3rd Avenue: Starting at Marine Avenue/3rd Ave and down to 67st Street. The Grandstand is located in front of the Greenhouse Cafe at 7717 3rd Avenue.

Spring Children’s Garden Family Day at Queens Botanical Garden
Sunday March 27th 1-4p. Free, drop-in. Ages 2-12 years old, must be parent-accompanied (*$10 parking fee in effect). Get your hands dirty with planting activities and garden crafts in the Children’s Garden! See how worms wiggle, discover the QBG plant collection, create garden art, and more. Learn about all the outstanding programs we have for children ages 2 to 12. On the same day, Sunday, 3/27, from 10am to 2pm, the Garden is hosting an E-waste Recycling Event with LES Ecology Center. Responsibly dispose of all of your unwanted or broken gadgets by dropping them off at the QBG Parking Garden 42-80 Crommelin Street, Flushing, NY from 10am to 2pm. Rain or shine. NOTE: Gadgets will NOT be accepted after 2pm. Check which items are accepted by visiting LES Ecology Center’s website.

Con Edison’s Family Science at Greenbelt Nature Center (Staten Island)
Sunday March 27th 2-330p. Free. Register here. Join us at the Greenbelt Nature Center for our Con Edison Family Science program. This program is a series of free monthly sessions featuring science topics and experiments designed for children and parents to accomplish as a team. A few short, self-guided activities will start families thinking together. Note: Each ticket reserves one table for a family/group of up to 4 people.

All Weekend

Beauty & the Beast at Puppetworks (Park Slope)
Saturdays-Sundays 1230p & 230p until April 3rd. Tickets: Children $10 each, Adults $11 each. Suggested for 3 and up. Beauty & the Beast, the French Fantasy with a “live” Beast adapted for Marionettes by Nicolas Coppola. Under 5 year olds are welcome, with Masks required.

1885 Tall Ship Wavertree Free Tour at South Street Seaport
Saturdays-Sundays 11a-5p until April 30th. Free. The permanently-moored 1885 tall ship Wavertree is open to the public for FREE on Saturdays and Sundays, with timed entry, at Pier 16 (Fulton and South Streets). Guided tours depart hourly and last approximately 30 minutes. Advance reservations are recommended. Guided tours include access to the main deck and quarter deck. Learn how people worked and lived aboard a 19th century cargo sailing vessel, from the captain to the ship’s officers, cooks, and crew. Then visit the cargo hold and stand atop the viewing platform where you can take in the massive main cargo area. Proof of vaccine required for all guests over age 5. Masks required.

Sharks at the American Museum of Natural History (UWS)
Museum hours Wednesday-Sunday 10a-530p. Included in General Admission+One. See website for all the details.The new exhibition Sharks features dozens of life-sized models ranging from 33 feet to 5.5 inches long, fossils from the Museum’s collections, touch-free interactive exhibits that challenge visitors to hunt like a hammerhead, and more for visitors of all ages. Older than dinosaurs—and more threatened than threatening—sharks are spectacular, surprising, and often misunderstood. Discover the incredible diversity of this ancient and fascinating group of fishes. Note: The Museum continues to require vaccinations against COVID-19 and facial coverings.

Ice Skating at LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park
Hours for covered rink: Monday-Thursday 9a-430p, Friday 9a-7p, Saturday 1-9p, Sunday 1-430p until April 3rd. Open air rink hours: 9a-7p, Friday-Saturday 9a-9p & Sunday 9a-7p. Admission rates: $8 weekday per person, $12 weekend per person. Reserve your desired 90-minute skate session for access to one of our two available ice rinks online now and guarantee your ice time. Skate rentals are available at an additional cost or feel free to bring your own skates. Purchase online today as capacity is limited. To help our young skaters, helpful Skate Aids are available and can be rented in advance or on the day of your visit, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
